Halloween DIYs: Tombstone and Candlestick

Its the Halloween! One of the fun seasons to get the creative juices flowing. Tight Budget? No worries.

Here are some of my Tricks for this year's Halloween to Treat our neighborhood kids. Perfect if you have no budget and lots of stuff to throw at home. I barely spent 88 pesos (LED lights). You can always veer away from spending by improvising, just use a little imagination. *wink*

Tombstone

Materials

a box enough to fit whatever you need to fill it in
Masking tape
Scissors or cutter
paints and brushes

Procedure
Seal the opening ends of the box with Masking tape
  • You may or may not cut the top part, but for this project I need an opening for my box so I could fill it with ghost balloons so I cut one of the short sides.
  • I used the flap which I cut to make the shape for the grave stone. Shaped it into trapezoid.
  • Attach it to the side that will be used as front with tape.
  • Paint the box. Put details as you wish. I painted mine black and put on white acrylic paint as borders, a cross and RIP.
  • Put on some paints on my hand and smudged it on the box

 Candlestick

Materials

Foil,tissue or paper towel roll
LED candle light
Glue gun
Glue Stick
Scissors or cutter
Paint (optional)

Procedure
  • Size the rolls according to your requirement.
  • If it fits, put the LED candle light inside the hole of the roll and secure it with glue.
  • Once secured in place run glue around the connection between the roll and the LED light to create a candle melt effects. Just let the melted glue stick fall according to gravity and dry.
  • Paint as you wish, but for this project I didnt because my roll is already white.

You can either throw them away or reuse them next year. Q got an idea of making the tombstone as his costume next time and the candlestick his props. Oh why not?! Kids dont have manuals, you just dont know how creative their imaginations can be. :D

Halloween 2016: MBP Mad Hatter Trick or Treat

a very cute garden feels set up by Okasyon Filipino
I am very much excited about this Trick or Treat event. It will be my first Halloween event with the Mommy Bloggers Philippines as well as Z's "official" Halloween event since birth. Good thing we could tag along Kuya Q but too last minute I wasn't able to brainstorm for his costume nor something for the Mad Hatter Hat contest. The brain and hands were just too preoccupied with so much hanash! Hahahaha

The Venue was in The Mind Museum. It is our first time to be in this place too! Arrived earlier than the call time so we had breakfast first in Jollibee and I started to brief the boys about the party.

Zylar, came with a Spiderman costume. It was Quillan's when he was 3. Z used this last year at the Trick or Treat party here in our Subdivision. We bought him something for the Halloween but he wont wear it so we didn't push him. Q on the other hand came in his casual self, but I let him bring his old wolf headdress/hat. I told him to be Jacob Black (from the movie Twilight), besides he's kinda big for kiddie Halloween costumes already. We need to be a bit inventive. Until I remembered something I DiYed for school, his Buffalo costume, but too late. While eating, he thought of wearing the Spiderman mask. "Oh! You could be Peter Parker too!" I said. Then Z, wore the wolf hat "Im Spider-Wolfman", he exclaimed.

We then entered Mind Museum's events place and it was decorated with garden-like theme. Arc of flowers and butterflies balloons. Same with the stage with front outlined with flower shaped balloons.

The program started with a prayer led by Mommy Lani, one of MBP's Administrators. Followed by thanking the sponsors by Mommy Louisa, in-charge of the event, then the most awaited RAFFLE!!!! facilitated by Mommy Joy.

Oh! Did I mention RAFFLE? Yes Raffle! I am one of the early lucky winners of the event. (Thanks to Mommy Lariza's lucky dusts, hahaha) I was called next to the Buena Mano ate Lariza after rubbing (literally) her as our funny gestures while mommy Joy asked for other kids to pick up a stub. Then, "MBP 00004" was called! and thats ME!!!! I won one of the coveted items, the Tupperware Picnic Set.

Whats inside the box!

Then the parade of costumes commenced as the kids and mommies lined up the stage to show what they came into. Most of the boys wore super hero costumes, a bunch were composed of Spiderman including Z. Most of the girls came in as pricesses and little witches. Among the kids, this little man stood out and won the audience's votes. Mommy Lei Deveza's son Reiniel who came as the Mad Hatter.

Good Job Mommy Lei!

Participant #1 and #3

After the presentation, we were given hotdog treats from Mekeni then lining up for all the participating sponsors' booth started.

My boys were very happy, a bit exhausted, but happy. When we all woke up late in the afternoon we then checked all the contents of our bags. Q and Z munched non-stop all they could eat especially the chocolates! Happy kids indeed! Itay and I enjoyed the day too. We hope to get invited again next year. Thank you Mommy Bloggers, The Mind Museum and to ALL our sponsors for the event!

Ladies and gentlemen, the SCIENCE CIRCUS has come to town!

MANILA, Philippines - Science Circus: Step Right Up! is the latest traveling exhibition of The Mind Museum, showcasing the amusing, the peculiar, and the extraordinary in our everyday experiences, in the form of interactive exhibits that deceive the senses and boggle the mind. Be ready to #EnterTheScienceCircus this coming October 28, 2016!

While the nearly 250-year history of the circus abounds with awe-inspiring demonstrations of physical skill – such as high-flying aerial artists, to death-defying daredevils – the Science Circus challenges our traditional notions of a circus by focusing on the mind’s “acrobatic” perceptual tricks.

As the guests enter the exhibition, they are welcomed by a festive, colorful faƧade which sets the tone for the sights and sounds they are about to experience. These interactive exhibits are displayed simultaneously in three adjacent Rings. Guests can go in any of the Rings in the order they please.

Ring One, or Deception Perception is a menagerie of exhibits that will prompt you to question whether to see is to believe. Can you always trust your senses? Is what you see as real as it seems? Can your brain produce motion where there is none? Your first venture into the Circus will unveil the “blindness” of your mind’s eye.

Deception Perception

Ring Two highlights Pieces of Incredible Engineering, where guests can engage their minds in puzzles and relish how math and art come together. This central area is animated by simple machines, and engages guests in activities that evoke their inner engineer.

Pieces of Incredible Engineering

Last but not least, Ring Three is Encounters with the Masters, where guests can interact with and learn the secrets of the Masters of Illusion. They can take on the challenges posed by each Master, and discover how our brains can be ensnared by smoke and mirrors.

Automaton Circus Performers

The Science Circus: Step Right Up! exhibition vividly illustrates how our everyday experiences are full of delightful secrets that we can uncover, to discover more about ourselves and the world around us.
