School Days are here

Its the time of the year again here in the Philippines that kids are going back to school. After all the stress brought by choosing the school, enrollment and school stuff, my son has finally been going to school and based from his expressions during dismissal, I think he's enjoying the activities so far. The Stress Quillan has no experience going to school. Not even short classes for arts, music or sports. We intended it to be that way and I just maximized my being a stay-at-home mom and taught him the basics which we believed were taught in nursery level. Little did we know, because of the K-12 Program being implemented by the Philippine Education system, Quillan's age (turning 6 on October) will fall at Grade 1 level already. That freaked me bigtime. I even blamed myself for not letting him start to go to school at the age of 3 or 4. But I calmed myself and realized, Of course not. I taught him at home. He knows his alphabets, numbers, shapes and colors and I know I provided him with very good educational supplements while we're home schooling. I know we were so frugal about sending him to nursery level. We were just practical. I just cant see the point of spending tuition fees leveling to a tertiary education while all they do in school is play and improve cognitive skills, while in fact parents can do it at home with their kids. But come to think of it, not all parents are like me who chose to be at home and can sacrifice career with family life.
