Inay, Q and N Day Out: Gardenia Plant Tour with Mommy Bloggers Philippines

Kidulting is a way to relive the best childhood memories, to temporarily escape adult activities, and to remember the good, old days of being carefree.  Adults are now trying to recapture their childhood experiences through playing console games or visiting their favorite kid theme park or having a spontaneous night of pajama party. But did you know that kidulting can be used as a parenting tool? It could be an effective parenting method where adults and kids bond together in activities they can both playfully participate. Where the young can create fun and learning-filled experience while the adult can reminisce their child self and relate with their kids as playmate and not as a demanding parent.

We were all happy to see the LED screen welcoming the MBP

MBP Represent!

We're going on a Fieldtrip!

Last May 4, together with fellow Mommy Bloggers Philippines members, we started our Friday early heading to the Gardenia Bread Plant in Laguna International Industrial Park (LIIP), Binan Laguna. What I thought to be just a Plant Tour became a whole day affair doing workshops around the Gardenia Plant. I brought with me Kuya Quillan, being his last hurrah for childhood because soon he will enter the adolescence stage. I thought he will benefit best from the opportunity and knowing that schools these days omitted the out of town field trips in the curriculum probably to escape the crazy traffic and because of the recent  accidents that involved the rented buses.

Game winner: Twiggies Hunt

Gardenia prepared a lot of fun activities that harness the different skills of all the kid participants touching all the ages. Since the MBP kids' ages varies, everybody had their share of showcasing their skills and talents in the Arts, Leadership, Entertainment and in the mock Workplace. We did some coloring and painting activities. The small kids did some reading and role playing. When the Gardenia mascots appeared the kids joined them in a dance number. During the Gardenia Plant tour, the children were briefed and trained to be plant Tour Guides and Merchandisers. They even played games!

We went home very happy despite of being tired from travelling. We took home lots of Gardenia goodies from the generous Gardenia management and staff. Aside from that, Quillan was happy to learn a lot of things and the whole process of making bread. The sight of the entire bread plant is just mesmerizing and overwhelming especially the twin cooling towers all the more the number of breads they produce everyday. Quillan appreciated more the value of the food we love to eat seeing and doing the whole process of making and actual selling them to market.

why so serious Inay???

Q was HERE: Gardenia Plant Tour

The Gardenia Plant located in LIIP (Laguna International Industrial Park) Mamplasan, BiƱan, Laguna houses 2 state of the art bread plants that produces 850,000 loaves and buns in a day to date.

In 2009, Gardenia inaugurated what they call now 6K1, their first plant capable of making 6,000 loaves of white bread per HOUR. In 2016, they invested another sophisticated and world class plant also with the same capacity, 6,000 loaves in one hour, they call it 6K2.

A total of 12,000 loaves of white bread are produced in one hour which they say runs 24 hours a day. They only shut the machineries on Saturdays which makes the operation 6x a week. You do the Math. ;) Inside the plant, you will be amazed to see the fully automated mixing throughs, guaranteed no human intervention. Doughs are running on conveyors parted, weighed and individually placed in baking pans going towards the oven. Then the freshly baked breads go to that twin cylinder shaped cooling towers before they get to be mechanically sliced.

The only time they are being touched by human hands is during QC to make sure they pass the perfect quality before they get packed and sealed. The breads are being tumbled down to see if they are baked perfectly. They also pass through a metal detector to make sure they are clean. Another time they are being held by human is at the end of the conveyor where they are being stacked on to the crates.

We were not allowed to take photos of the actual machines and process but I hope you got the picture of how Gardenia white breads are made.

Did I mention they produce 6,000 breads in one hour in just one plant alone? They got 2 plants by the way.
